50th STATE FAIR

Marc went to a retirement party for one of his co-workers on Saturday.  It happened to be at the Perry & Price (local radio personalities) show at Jimmy Buffet's.  He won one of the prize drawings for a trip to Vegas!!!!

How fabulous is that?  Only thing-- leaves on Tuesday.  Perfect for Marc since he's a School Counselor and on Summer Break right now (so jealous).  Although we got married in Vegas-- it's not my most favorite place to visit, and I have to work...so he's taking his Dad.  You know that if it was someplace like, say... San Francisco-- I'd be THERE!

Since Marc's leaving this week-- we decided to do a family day today.  We surprised Em Jay by taking her to the fair.  Or as she calls it, "the carvinal".  She was so HAPPY.

Marc seems to be a winner this week, doesn't he?

3.  Surprises are : the BEST!

4.  The best accessory is: a smile. I like when people smile.

5.  My favorite warm drink is: hot chocolate.

6.  My favorite cold drink is: caffeine free diet pepsi

7.  Currently loving:  chicken laarb from bangkok chef. I've been thinking about it daily.

RANDOM, RANDOM, RANDOM

Last weekend we went to the Home and Garden Expo.  Em played "spin the wheel" at the Geico Insurance Booth and won a Gecko... She wanted to take pictures with him:

FILL IN THE BLANK FRIDAY

1.   This weekend I'm: taking em to go swimming with friends and bringing myself a floatation device this time.  no more getting out of the pool to get to the other end. ha!

2.  My last vacation was: the most wonderful trip to san francisco in january.

3.  My next vacation will be: disneyland in september! along with a visit to seattle to spend time with em's aunty jen.

4.  My favorite way to relax is: with a few magazines, and the tv on (criminal minds, oddities, or lifetime movie network).

5.  When vacationing one should always:  check out what festivals, fairs or concerts are playing in the area while you're there.  and marc always asks store clerks about the best food in the area.  we've found some good things that way.

6.  When vacationing one should never:  be so serious, or hold expectations for what you think it will be like

7.  The best part about a vacation is: the feeling that there is no rush or time limits. no day to day stresses-- just freedom.

POTATO MAN?

Em was busy drawing all morning.  When I went to see what she was drawing, I found these.  I asked her what they were and she said, "It's a Potato Man!"  My favorite part are the "shoes".

"CONFETTI" GREETING CARDS

Em and I made these fun, and super easy to make confetti-inspired cards.

I carved out (with an exacto knife) tiny geometric shapes from a stamp carving block...but these work really great too.

For Em's "kid-friendly" stamps I cut out tiny shapes from a styrofoam take out container and used two-sided tape to adhere the shape onto a wooden peg.  Tape works great because you can easily peel off and tape on a completely different shape-- then you'll only need one wooden peg.

If I were to do it over again, I would use something thicker for Em's stamps...like fun foam to eliminate those rings around the image.  I'm okay with the imperfectness though, and had to work with what I had.  Still, I think they came out pretty cute...

Reminds me of this pretty soap:

I also came across an inspiring post with "confetti" images at my life as a magazine.  A blog I've been love, love, loving lately!

MONDAY LOVE

I came across this beautiful necklace from Nicole Richie's House of Harlow Collection.

Then went on a hunt for more arrow goodness.

IN THE MOOD

MOOD SWING NAIL POLISH REVIEW...DISAPPOINTED

I had high hopes for Claire's Mood Swing Nail Polish ($5). Which from the bottle looks as though it would change from a deep purple to turquoise.

First of all, I don't even have a picture of it on because 70% of it chipped off after the first few hours, so I took it off.  Second, the color did not change, or if it did it wasn't enough to notice.  Even after submerging in hot or ice water.  Oh well.

So of course, I was thrilled to see mood rings at thinker toys.  I bought a heart design, and according to the chart...I am "relaxed."

* by the way, the nail polish in the picture above is O.P.I. pirates of the caribbean -- stranger tides.
