TELL YOUR STORY CLASS: DAY 5

Deep Down:

FOR THIS PAGE:
I painted the border with brown and orange paint--I always wanted to do something in that color combination.  I free hand cut the letters from woodgrain contact paper. And doodled around the border.  This was a very personal topic for me, I thought about it all day at work-- "what do I really know or feel deep down in my heart and soul?"... this is it.

P.S. I plan on posting some crafts soon.

TELL YOUR STORY CLASS: DAY 3

I Want More Than Anything...

FOR TODAY'S PAGE:
I used a small piece of green floral print fabric (rounded the corners), pink flower printed scrapbook paper, and woodgrain contact paper.  added a photo, a sequin trim, and painted words with pink acrylic paint.  I'm finally using scraps in my stash of craft supplies that I couldn't bear to throw away.

TELL YOUR STORY JOURNAL CLASS: DAY 2

Today felt:

EMPOWERED:
I stepped out of an elevator today and smiled at a lady.  She smiled right back and in that moment I immediately felt good.  Like I was about to have a really good day.  I realized in that moment just how much power we have within ourselves to create our day the way we want it to be. Even in the busy moment of my work day, a small smile made a huge difference.

FOR THIS PAGE:
I used tissue paper in blue/green tones and small strips of red polka dot tissue.  I cut out a image of a girl from a free people catalog, mod podged everything on the page.  I added masking tape around the edges for a border, and did my journaling right on top of it all.

It was nice to sit and reflect on my day for special moments that stood out of the ordinary.  I automatically thought of the elevator moment because it really did give me a feeling of contentment.  I remember thinking-- this is going to be a good day and I'm going to go home later and spend time with emily and marc and just be happy.

TELL YOUR STORY JOURNAL CLASS

day one:

Things I'm looking forward to this upcoming season...

used green paint, lots of japanese tape, and my own photo (look familiar?) with writing on it.  lots of fun to make.

PAPER PLATE ELMO

MATERIALS:
  • paper plate
  • red tempera paint
  • 2 large white paper circles (eyes)
  • 2 smaller black paper circles (pupils)
  • 1 black paper half circle (mouth)
  • 1 orange paper oval (nose)
  • paint roller or large paint brush
  • glue

step one: prepare facial features ahead of time

step two: have your child paint the entire (backside) paper plate red with brush or roller

step twp: glue on features to the paper plate (I helped guide the eyes), making sure to point out each feature on their own body too.

DONE! VERY EASY!!

It would be fun to make cookie monster and oscar too!

our bereavement program at work came across a wonderful resource for children who are grieving the loss of a loved one.  it's called "when families grieve"-- by sesame street.  we ordered packet resources but I looked at their website and it's great.

I looove these "park presents" by color me katie -- such a FUN idea!  I especially love how much the adults enjoyed it.

and go see the turtle dove project to learn ways to stay on love (click on the pic below):

TAKE ME HOME!

my occupation as a hospice social worker brings me to the hospitals a lot--pretty much daily.  the one thing I do like about hospitals are...their gift shops.

as I was passing by the pali momi hospital gift shop yesterday, this little guy caught my eye.  he was shouting, "take me home!!!!"  so I did.

makes me smile when I look at him.
